This project highlights my role as the Digital Product Specialist for the Humankind program at the British Red Cross. Drawing on my experience in instructional design and digital learning systems, I led on the technical architecture and platform development for this pioneering humanitarian education initiative.
The Challenge
The British Red Cross identified a critical gap in the UK education sector: while educators felt humanitarian issues were vital, they often lacked the confidence, curated resources, and pedagogical framework to teach these complex, often sensitive topics effectively.
The Approach
Furthermore, the organisation needed a way to scale its reach beyond traditional face-to-face workshops. We needed a digital solution that could reach thousands of educators simultaneously while maintaining the high emotional intelligence and educational standards required for humanitarian subjects, all while remaining cost-effective.

I led the technical strategy by building a bespoke Moodle LMS from the ground up, tailored specifically to the needs of the "Humankind" educator hub. My approach included:
System Architecture
Designing a robust framework that supported a blended learning model, allowing for both self-paced digital modules and downloadable resources for classroom use.
Platform Development
I served as the lead developer for the Moodle environment, ensuring it was accessible, intuitive, and secure. This included the custom design and development of the platform’s homepage to ensure a seamless user journey (UX) from the first click.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
I worked as a core member of a product team, collaborating with Product Managers (to align with the customer’s point of view), Content Designers (utilising product design methodology for high-impact learning), and Marketing teams (to ensure the platform met brand and outreach goals).
Internal Consultancy
Beyond development, I acted as a consultant to internal stakeholders, establishing the systems and processes required for a smooth transition and long-term operational handover.
Education Content Management
Acting as the Education Content Manager, ensuring all educational materials were personally signed off by myself before release. This allowed me to act as a mentor and coach to the design team while maintaining an exceptionally high level of educational standards.
